Ollal Shiva Temple – Festival

Ollal Shiva temple is located at Ollal near Paravur (Gate By Pass) in Kollam district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva. The temple observes annual Maha Shivratri festival in Kumbha Masam (February – March).

This is a very small temple. The murtis worshipped in the temple are very old. The temple was renovated recently. The Upa Devats worshipped here are Ganapathy, Goddess Durga and Goddess Bhadra.

Earlier the shrine had square sanctum but it has now been replaced with round sanctum.

The temple is famous for a sacred grove located behind the temple. Ayilyam nakshatra day in all Malayalam masam is of great importance here. Nagas (Nagaraja and Nagayakshi) are worshipped here. This is an important snake temple in the area.

The temple observes annual festivals mainly with pujas and rituals.

Navratri and Thrikarthika are the other important festivals here.

A unique offering in the temple is small bells.
