Aaluvamkudi Mahadeva Temple is an ancient shrine located in the Sabarimala forest area in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Shiva and shrine is also known as Mahadevar temple. Maha Shivratri is an important festival in the temple.
One has to trek nearly seven kilometers through the forest to reach this temple.
The sankalpam of Shiva is that of him drinking the Halahala poison to save the universe during the Samudra manthan episode in Purana.
The Shivling in the temple was consecrated by Parashurama. It is believed that Sri Rama during his exile period had performed puja here.
The temple is believed to more than 2000 years old.
The temple is open only on the first day of every Malayalam Masam.
The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapati, Ayyappa, Muruga and Goddess Parvati.
Gurunathan Mannu which is located nearby is associated with Ramayana. The belief is that the Ashram of Sage Vasishta was located here. Mata Sita gave birth to Lava and Kusha here. The belief was that the Aluvamkudy area is the place where Vasishta did various yagnas.
The term Aluvaamkudi can be translated as the place where Shiva seated after he swallowed the venom of Vasuki, the snake. (Aalam = Venom and Kudi = to drink).

മണ്ണ് വഴിയും വനത്തിലൂടെ ഇവിടെ
