Mudapuram Thengumvila Bhagavathy Temple – Festival

Mudapuram Thengumvila Bhagavathy temple is located near Koonthalloor on Mudapuram – Muttappalam Road in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali. The annual festival in the temple coincides with the Kumbha Bharani day (February – March). Mahashivratri is another important occasion in the shrine.

The popular belief is that Thengumvila Bhagavathy is the sister of Kodungallur Bhagavathy. The shrine has a square sanctum sanctorum, chuttambalam, namaskara mandapam, kodimaram or flag post and shrines of upa devatas.

The famous Garudan Thookkam ritual is held on the festival day. The annual festival is also noted for Kerala temple performing arts, procession, fireworks and ezhunellippu. The temple is decorated with lamps and artificial lights on the occasion of the festival.

The beautiful temple is surrounded on one side by paddy fields.

The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapati, Shiva, Ayyappa and Nagaraja and Nagayakshi.

Navratri (Ashtami, Navami and Vidyarambham) are held here. The shrine also observes Ramayana Masam, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Mandala Kalam, Ayilyam Pooja and Thrikarthika in Vrischika Masam.
