True experience is living our own life. Self-realization happens when we experience it. All teachings are just words. They are mere references. To experience ‘That,’ we need to venture into the unknown world within us. This needs intense concentration and deep contemplation. Finally we see the light within us and the same light in all animate and inanimate. As per Hindu teachings, we all are essence of that Supreme Truth. However, layers and layers of ignorance is covering it. This is blocking us from reaching our ultimate goal – self-realization. True experience happens when we search to find answer to Who AM I? This

Ramana Maharshi points out that a person can achieve supreme state only after the death of the ego. If during this quest of one’s own Self, the mind turns outwards, due to attachment to sense objects, the seeker should turn it inwards again by merging the world in the Self. Just as waves, foam, etc., are only the ocean, and as the dream-world is only the seer of the dream, and nothing else, so the whole world is only myself and nothing else.’ This view is the merging of the world in the Self. If during the quest of one’s own Self the mind turns outwards on account of its attachment to objects of perception, the seeker should turn it inwards again. He should bring the mind back again and again and re-engage it in the quest. There must be a resolve to become aware of the truth of oneself by means of the question, ‘Who is he that has this attachment to objects of perception?’ The aspirant for deliverance must be full of enthusiasm, with his mind in the sattvic mood. Purification Of The Mind Through Work - Bhagavad Gita

A proper attitude to work and to one’s profession can convert work into a potent tool for effecting the purification of the mind. Sri Krishna emphasizes this in a series of graded disciplines for spiritual life: ‘Fix your mind on Me,may your intellect dwell on Me. Undoubtedly, you will live in Me on giving up the body. In case you are not able to fix your mind on Me, desire to attain Me through abhyasa yoga (the yoga of steadfast practice). If you are unable to do this either, be intent on working for My sake. Working for Me, you will attain perfection. If you cannot thus work for My sake resorting to yoga, renounce the fruits of all your actions, being self-controlled.’ So, performing one’s action with a view to pleasing God is a basic discipline every seeker is taught to practise. How is one to surrender the fruits of one’s actions to God? By taking refuge in the primeval Purusa (God) from whom have originated activities from time immemorial! Sri Krishna emphasizes the

Why there are no Hindu Festivals Dedicated to Brahma?

Shiva saw disease, pain, suffering, death… in the world. He saw human beings madly scampering for momentary pleasure under the  influenceof Maya . But Brahma was happy with his creation and he brought forth four heads to look in all direction. Brahma’s pride knew no limits and he popped up a fifth head to have a look at his creation. This pride of Brahma enraged Shiva and he became Bhairava. Shiva as the ferocious Bhairava attacked Brahma and he cut off the fifth head for creating a world filled with misery, Shiva cursed Brahma that people will not worship him

In the Ramayana – Why Kumbhakarna Sleeps for Six Months?

As per Ramayana, Kumbhakarna was a giant. He roamed around the universe creating havoc. He caused damage to Devas and humans. Kumbakarna once performed intense austerities dedicated to Brahma at Gokarna along with Ravana. The tapasya continued for several years. Devas were worried that Kumbakara might become even more powerful and destroy the earth and heaven. Soon the Devas realized that Kumbhakarna was planning to ask extinction of Devas as boon. Devas took the help of Goddess Saraswati to thwart the evil designs of the huge demon. She promised to help them. The direction right side symbolizes the path to Moksha or liberation – the ultimate goal in Sanatana Dharma. The trunk pointing to left side is associated with material gains. It is the direction of success in the world. But this success does not last for long. Symbolically, it represents achievements, gains in worldly life, desires etc, and is not used for worship.
