Pottachira Ponmugham Shiva Temple – Festival

Pottachira Ponmugham Shiva temple is located at Pottachira off Pattambi – Cherpulassery road in Palakkad district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to both Shiva and Vishnu. The annual Shivratri is an important festival in the shrine.

This is a very old temple with a unique vatta sreekovil for Shiva. The round sanctum sanctorum has a Shivling. The Vishnu temple is square in shape – chathura sreekovil.

The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Mahaganapathy, Sastha and Bhagavathy.

The temple has a chuttambalam and namaskara mandapam and a pond. The shrine is a classic example of ancient Shiva temple.

The annual festival is famous for both Tantric and Vedic rituals including homams and dhara.

The shrine also observes Vishu, Ramayana Masam, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Navratri, Mandalakalam, Thrikarthika and Thiruvathira.
