Atholikavu Shiva Temple – Festival

Atholikavu Shiva Temple is located at Atholi in Kozhikode district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva – Mahadeva. An important festival at Atholi Kavu is the annual Mahashivratri in Kumbha Masam (February – March).

A Shivling is worshipped in a round sanctum sanctorum – vatta sreekovil. There are separate shrines of Upa Devatas. The temple has a nalambalam and namaskara mandapam.

The annual festival in the temple is famous for dhara, homam and other pujas and rituals observed in Shiva temples in North Kerala. The festival is also famous for the performance of traditional Kerala temple art forms.

The temple also observes Ramayana Masam, Mandala Kalam and Thiruvathira in Dhanu Masam
