Ramachandra Ajja on Who am I?

Who is that energy, that power? What is the source of that? Who am I? What is my source? I am that energy. I am that power which is my source. So when I go to search for the source of this ‘I,’ I reach that self-illumination. Then this power that is existing in this body, residing in this body, is also arising from that self-illumination itself. And it has all the qualities and nature of That itself. So when I know this, I start evolving. This ‘I’ starts evolving to become That itself. That is its nature. Total expansion is its nature.Ramachandra Ajja(Source: From an interview to Andrew Cohen in 'What is Enlightenment Magazine')(Ramchandra Bhat Nettar, also known as ‘Puttur Ajja’ was a preacher of Advaita philosophy.)

Quotes from Avadhuta Gita on Brahman that alone is

Free from subject and object am I, How can I be self-realizable? Endless is my nature, naught else exists. Truth absolute is my nature, naught (not anything) else exists.
Atman by nature, the supreme Reality am I, Neither am I slayer nor the slain. On the destruction of a jar, the space therein unites with all space. In myself and Shiva I see no difference when the mind is purified.Brahman alone is, as pure consciousness. In truth there is no jar, and no jar-space, no embodied soul, nor its nature. There are no worlds, no Vedas, no Devas, no sacrifices, no castes, no family tribes, no nationalities, no smoke path, no shining path. Some there are that prize non-dualism, others hold to dualism. They know not the Truth, which is above both. How can the supreme Reality be described, since It is neither white nor any other color, has no qualities such as sound, and is beyond voice and mind?Avadhuta Gita

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa on how he experienced mother goddess

When I jumped up like a madman…, suddenly the blessed Mother revealed herself. The buildings with their different parts, the temple, and everything vanished from my sight, leaving no trace whatsoever, and in their stead I saw a limitless, infinite, effulgent Ocean of Consciousness. As far as the eye could see, the shining billows were madly rushing at me from all sides with a terrific noise, to swallow me up. I was caught in the rush and collapsed, unconscious… within me there was a steady flow of undiluted bliss, altogether new, and I felt the presence of the Divine Mother. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa(Source: Ramakrsna Kathamrta translated by Swami Nikhilananda as The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna.)

Costly Laddu Auction in Hyderabad on Ganesha Idol Immersion Day

The price of a single Laddu (sweet) auctioned during the Ganesh Immersion day in Hyderabad was rupees 650,000. Another famous laddu auction at Balapur in Hyderabad saw the price touching 415,000. What is all about this costly laddus auctioned on the Ganesha immersion day in Hyderabad?
There is a belief that Lord Ganesh bestows his blessings on the person who manages to outbid everyone and acquires the laddu. The auction first started in Balapur in Hyderabad and was soon adopted by several other pandals in the villages near Hyderabad. The person who brought the Balapur Laddu this year said that his real estate business picked up after he successfully bid for the Balapur Laddu in the year 2000. Last year a laddu was auctioned for 1.5 million rupees in the area. It is being said that this year many pandals deliberately kept the price lower and some even stopped the auction when a desired price was reached. The single laddu brought at such a huge cost weighs around 21 kg. The buyer d…

Nature of Hindu Concept of Maya in Siddhanta Panjara

Disciple: O teacher, I wish to know the nature of Maya in order to give it up. What is abandoned without knowing, that abandonment is indeed not real abandonment.
That is truly abandoned which is given up having known ‘this is thus’. Therefore O compassionate one, explain to me the nature of Maya.
Preceptor: That which endows (apparent) differentiation to beings with regard to their parts, is defined as Maya by the knowers of the essence of all scriptures.
That which produces diverse distinctions in the Supreme is verily called Maya by the examiners of the nature of Maya.
That which brings about impossible aberrations in the form of Brahman is verily called Maya by those learned in the essence of all scriptures.
That which appears to the intellect as having attributes in the one devoid of all attributes, as duality in the non-dual, is called Maya.
(The notion of) reality in the unreal is determined as Maya and that of unreality in the real is accounted for by the same.Siddhanta Panjara

Book on when was Lord Ram Born?

Lord Ram was born on the noon of January10 in the year 5114 BC. In Hindu calendar, it was the ninth day of Shukla Paksha in Chaitra month. Stunned! Well, this exact date of the birthday of Lord Rama is found in the book ‘Dating the Era of Lord Ram’ by Shri Pushkar Bhatnagar. The exact date was obtained by entering the planetary configuration at the time of the birth of Lord Ram as mentioned in the Valmiki Ramayana in Planetarium Software. Interestingly, for thousands of years Hindus have been celebrating Ram Navmi, the birthday of Lord Ram, exactly on the same time and date.In the original Sanskrit Ramayana written by Sage Valmiki, while mentioning about the birth of Lord Ram, Valmiki had mentioned the astronomical details of the precise moment. Valmiki himself was present in the palace of Dasaratha and he mentions it thus in Bala Kanda of Ramayana. On completion of the ritual six seasons have passed by and then in the twelfth month, on the ninth day of chaitra month when the presidi…

Quotes of Osho on dual and non-dual

The witness, the observer, divides the world into subject and object, into the witness and the witnessed. Therefore as long as there is a witness, duality will continue. Witnessing is the last frontier of the dual world, after which the non-dual begins. But one cannot reach the non-dual without being a witness. To be a witness means that I now give up dividing the world into many. Instead I will divide it two- the witness and the witnessed. And when I have reduced the many fragments of the world to two, it will not be difficult to come to the complete unity of existence when duality will disappear, when the observer and the observed will become one and the same. If one succeeds in becoming a witness he will soon have glimpses of the one without the other, when there is neither witness nor witnessed, but only witnessing. Osho (Source: Krishna by Osho)

Ram Sethu Issue brings forth the Pseudo Secularism in Indian Political Parties

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s remarks on Lord Ram and Ram Vilas Vedanti announcing bounty on Karunanidhi's head has given an ugly and violent turn to the Ram Sethu Controversy. Instead of condemning Karunanidhi and Vedanti, mainstream political parties in India and regional political parties who have representatives in the Cabinet and Parliament have remained silent on the issue. This once again clearly demonstrates the pseudo secularist attitude of Indian Political Parties. When the Central government submitted an affidavit stating there was No Lord Ram, some of the partners in the UPA coalition like Lalu Prasad Yadav came out against the affidavit and the government immediately withdrew it. As expected, the Communist Parties (CPI-M and CPI and numerous other splinter communist groups) – always in the forefront on demanding action against Hindu groups for their fundamentalist actions – supported the affidavit.Unnecessary comments by Karunanidhi like ‘No Lord Ram’, ‘wh…

Lord Vishnu’s Symbols Shankh Chakra Gada and Padma as Management Tools

An interesting article in The Economic Times discusses about using Lord Vishnu’s symbols Shankh (conch-shell), Chakra (discus), Gada (maze) and Padma (lotus) as management tools. Shankh was used by warriors to primarily communicate one’s resolve and intention. The Shankh thus reiterates that a leader should be an effective communicator – your team must know who you are, what your capabilities are, what your vision is and what you expect them to do, and why and how this will help in achieving your final objective.According to the author, the chakra can be viewed as a symbol of review; and gada (maze) and padma (lotus) are symbols of punishment and reward. The mace is like a teacher’s ruler, to punish those who do not do what they are supposed to do. The lotus rich with nectar and pollen that attracts bees and butterfly is for those who do what they are supposed to do and more. The use of ‘Shankh’ symbol as a management tool is interesting but the other three sounds far fetched. The we…

This tall Ganapati is a permanent statue unlike the idols created during Ganesh Chaturthi.

The Khairatabad Ganesha, usually more than 40 feet, was considered to be the world’s tallest Ganesh Chaturthi idol but it an idol in Vijayawada for Ganesh Chaturthi 2009 at 58 feet is now the tallest Vinayaka Chaturthi idol.

The statue was erected in November 2001 to commemora…

No Ram by Karunanidhi cannot erase Ram from people’s mind

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi’s statements like "Who is this Ram? From which engineering college he graduated?" should be ignored. There is no point in indulging in violence over the irresponsible comments of a Chief Minister. He is cleverly trying to divide the nation over the Ram Sethu issue. Hindus should not fall for it. His aim is to create a divide between the North and South. No damage can be done to Lord Ram by such statements. If any damage is taking place, it is in the hearts of the believers. Learn more about Hinduism or Santana Dharma and we will realize that the one who insults and the one feeling insulted all are the same. Brahman is there in Karunanidhi, you, me and in all animate and inanimate. This is the teaching of Hinduism and this is why it is referred as most intellectually-sophisticated religions, for those who want to describe it as a religion. For many it is not a religion but a way of life. All the people creating trouble and indulging in viol…

Hindu Women in Britain Dismissed For Wearing Nose Stud

Amrit Lalji, a HeathrowAirport worker in Londo, has been dismissed for wearing a nose stud. Amrit wore the tiny piercing as a mark of her Hindu faith but a manager, at caterers Eurest, suddenly found it objectionable as jewelry can harbor bacteria and find its way into the food people eat. She was wearing the stud at work for quite sometime and Eurest hard no problem , until a manager suddenly found ‘bacteria with naked eyes’ – in fact the nose stud worn by Amrit is so small that we can hardly detect it on her photo in BBC news. Last year, Eurest had dismissed a Christian woman for wearing a cross but had to reinstate her after protest from clerics. Amrit had produced a letter from her local Hindu community to support her case. The problem here is not bacteria in food or the nose stud. Some people cannot tolerate or respect other religions and beliefs. Before checking bacteria in food, such people should change their mindset. The nose stud can be cleaned but sadly, no detergent is ava…

Complete Works of Sri Narayana Guru – A Timeless Kerala Warrior against Caste

While fighting against the Caste System in Hinduism, many opt for the easiest option, condemn and reject all the teachings of Sanatana Dharma, and take refuge in some other religion. But there have been several champion social reformers who realized that the caste system is a creation of selfish-minded people and is not part of core teachings of Sanatana Dharma. One such social reformer was Sri Narayana Guru (1854-1928), who brought about revolutionary change in Kerala by organizing the lower caste people. His motto was one caste, one religion, one god – echoing the Brahman concept in Hinduism. When some unenlightened Brahmins objected to Sri Narayana Guru worshipping a Shiva lingam, he immediately retorted I am not worshipping a Brahmin Shiva but an Ezhava Shiva. He represented mainly the Ezhava caste in Kerala. He cleaned the dirt accumulated on the universal messages in Sanatana Dharma and wrote hymns and built new temples.National Book Trust has brought out the complete works of Sr…

No Lord Ram – Only a Myth says Indian Government

In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court of India on the Sethusamudram project, the Congress-led UPA government in India has questioned the existence of Lord Ram and has said he is a mere mythical character. The Indian Central Government to the Supreme Court “…contents of the Valmiki Ramayana, the Ramcharitamanas by Tulsidas and other mythological texts… cannot be said to be historical record to incontrovertibly prove the existence of the characters, or the occurrence of the events, depicted therein.”The statement was given by Archeological Survey of India (ASI) on behalf of the Central Government. In simple terms, the statement of the Congress-led UPA government says that Lord Ram and other Hindu gods are not real. Several countries around the world witnessed large-scale riots over a cartoon badly depicting a Prophet. Thanks to the Hindus, who to a large extend has not taken to religious fundamentalism, there was peace in India after such a blasphemous statement. The government of In…

Lord Ram’s Bridge Issue

In the epic Ramayana, Lord Ram and his monkey army on a mission to save Sita builds a bridge, Ram Sethu, to cross into Lanka. For thousands of years, Ram Sethu remained a Hindu myth and occasionally there were discussions on its existence, especially during the British period. The British called it the Adam’s bridge. Then one fine morning NASA came up with a picture showing a bridge like structure in Palk Strait. But NASA never claimed it was manmade. But a large section of Hindus believe it was built y Lord Ram and Vanarsena (Monkey army).Presently, ships coming from India’s west coast have to navigate around Sri Lanka to reach India’s east coast. From the time of the British, there were discussions to build a canal to link the PalkBay with the Gulf of Mannar between India and Sri Lanka. This will provide a continuous navigable sea route around the Indian peninsula. The NDA government introduced the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project, which proposed to link the PalkBay with the Gu…

Swami Suddhananda Quotes and Teachings

The test of the role that the mind plays in every little action lies in the recognition of the experience the person opens up to himself and surrenders himself totally and unconditionally to love. The test of true love lies in the fact that it is unresponsive to the voice of the mind, dictates of time, and pressures of the world around. This state of surrender to love and awakening to the nature of ones ‘self’ never suffers change.
Every little thing – living or non-living – goes into making the creation complete as long as each thing ‘is’. But the moment it ceases to exist, its absence does not affect the creation at all!

To see the Nature or the creation in its perfect mood as it is, one does not have to be a spectator, but be a part of the grand spectacle of creation. To fall within its vastness in which one is already included and then to glide along even though stationary is to fall into the rhythm that neither pushes nor leaves anything behind.
When you lose yourself in every …

Swami Dayananda Saraswati Quotes on Advaita

The word ‘advaita’ is a very important word. It's a word that negates dvaita, which means ‘two.’ The ‘a’ is a negative particle, so the meaning would be ‘that which is nondual.’ And it reveals the philosophy that all that is here is One, which means that there is nothing other than that One, nor is it made up of any parts. It's a whole without parts, and That they call ‘Brahman’ (the Absolute), and That you are – because the nondual cannot be different from you, the inquirer. If it is different from you, then it is dual; then you are the subject and it is the object. So it has got to be you. And therefore, if you don't recognize that, you'll miss out on being the Whole. Year of Origin of Hinduism

There is no exact year of origin of Hinduism. This because Hindu religion has no founder and it has evolved through centuries of teachings, primarily trying to find answer to questions like Who am I?Historians suggest that Hinduism originated around 3000 BCE in the the IndusValley near the River Indus in modern day India, Afghanistan and Pakistan. But this view has been challenged by many modern day historians and scholars, who feel it is even older. Then, there is the Dravidian culture, the indigenous culture in India, and tribal culture, which many scholars believe could have contributed to the origin of Hindu religion. The earliest artifacts related to Hinduism like phallic symbols and idols of mother goddess have been found from Mohenjodaro and Harappa in the IndusValley. It must be noted here that the term ‘Hindu’ was first used by Arabs around 2000 years ago and the term Hinduism was coined by European powers that colonized India. Before the arrival of foreign powers, Hinduism w…

Hindu Blog Turns 1

Hindu Blog was born on September 7, 2006 – exactly one year ago today. Initially, the blog concentrated on Hinduism and Nature and posted only links to articles in newspapers. Then came the ‘quote of the day posts’, which still continues. Frankly, I had no idea how to go about and there were no existing Hindu religious blog to emulate. So I tried to become a bit of a rebel sometimes, tried to concentrate on diverse topics, created irrelevant posts and committed several blunders and mistakes. The net result no visitors in the first few weeks and less than 100 visitors in the first two months. But strangely the idea of giving up never came to my mind because each day through the numerous newspaper articles related to Hinduism, I was learning more and more about this great religion. Soon, I realized that I can use this blog as a platform to learn about Santana Dharma, which I continue to do. The blog today discusses all aspects related to Hinduism. Each day I use this blog to explore Hin…

Professor Tatyana Elizarenkova Russian Scholar on Vedas Dead

Russian Scholar and an expert on Vedas Prof. Tatyana J Elizarenkova died in Moscow at the age of 78. India had honored her with the Padma Shri in 2004 for her contributions in the study of Vedas. She had authored several books on the Vedas including Russian Translation of Rig Veda. Prof. Tatiana Elizarenkova created a storm when she authoritatively claimed that Rig Veda was written somewhere in modern Russia. She said that the Aryans migrated to India and Iran from modern Russia. In the Voronezh region in Russia, she found a burial mound to prove her claims. The burial mound of a warrior in the Voronezh region, south of Moscow, was similar to the description in the Rig Veda. The warrior was buried in accordance with Vedic rites. Most of her books like ‘Language and Style of the Vedic Rsis’ are scholarly in nature.

Artificial Lakes in Mumbai for Ganesh Idol Immersion

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced several steps for an eco-friendly Ganesh festival. But sadly the very next day, BMC has taken a U-turn on many eco-friendly Ganesh festival decisions. Now, for an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will provide ‘nirmalya kalash’ (urns to dispose offerings) and artificial lakes for the immersion of Ganesh idols.
This year, BMC is planning to create a ditch of fifteen feet in circumference and fifteen feet deep and water from tankers will be poured into the ditch. The artificial lakes will help in reducing traffic congestion on the immersion day. If the disposal of the water in the artificial lake is handled carefully, it will help in reducing water pollution to a great extent. In 2006, Pestom Sagar Citizens Association had successfully demonstrated the utility of artificial lakes for the immersion of Ganesh idols.RelatedEnvironmental pollution caused by Ganesh Chaturthi festivalEco-friendly Ganesh Idol…
