Tripunithura Puthiyakavu Devi Temple – Thalappoli Festival

Tripunithura Puthiyakavu Devi temple is located at Tripunithura in Ernakulam district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy or Devi. The annual 7-day Thalappoli festival in the temple is held in Kumbha Masam and coincides with the Kumbha Bharani.

The third and fourth days of the festival are very auspicious for unmarried women. During these days, the women-folk gather at the temple to offer Thalappoli in thalams. Thookkam and a fireworks display mark the finale of this festival.

Goddess Karthyayani Devi, who is lovingly called Puthiyakavil Amma is worshipped in the shrine. It is believed that the Goddess is the sister of Kodungallur Bhagavathy.

Murti of Goddess Bhagavathy is worshipped in the chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. The Upa Devatas include Ganapati.

The temple has a nalambalam, namaskara mandapam, flag post (kodimaram) and shrines of Upa Devatas.

The annual festival is noted for fireworks, procession, ezhunellippu and Kerala temple folk art forms.

The shrine also observes various other holy occasions like Ramayana Masam, Navratri, Mandala kalam, and Thrikarthika festival.
