Tithi in Panchang – Hindu Calendar on Monday, 2 October 2023 – It is Krishna Paksha Tritiya tithi or the third day during the waning or dark phase of moon in Hindu calendar and Panchang in most regions. Ayilyam Festival at Vetticode Temple – Ayilyam Nakhatram Festival at Vetticode Sri Nagaraja Temple

Ayilyam Nakshatra in Kanni Masam as per Malayalam calendar followed in Kerala is of great significance at Vetticode Sree Nagaraja Temple. The festival commences 7 days prior to the Ayilyam Nakshatra. In 2023, Ayilyam Festival at Vetticode Temple is on October 9. The most important ritual on the day is Sarpa Bali and Ezhunnallathu or ceremonial procession of the deity. Special homams, pujas and kalash pujas are performed during the first six days of the festival. On the Ayilyam festival day, musical instruments are played to please the naga deities in the shrine. Nadaswaram, Kombu, Kuzhal, Maddalam, Chenda, Edakka and Thakil are the musical instruments played on the day. The Ezhunnallathu (ceremonial procession) would begin from the temple and proceeds to the Meppallil Illam (house of the priests and owners of the temple) at about 3 PM.  After rituals and pujas in the Illam, the deity returns to the temple. Pitru Pandhravda

Pitru Pandhravda is observed during the Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapad month – fortnight of waning phase of moon – and is dedicated to the departed souls – dead parents and relatives in Maharashtra . Pitru Pandharwada 2023 date is from September 29 to October 14, 2023. This fortnight dedicated to the departed souls is known as Pitru Paksha and Mahalya fortnight. No auspicious ceremony is held during the period. Hindus only eat vegetarian food during the period. Shradh rituals are offered to dead ancestors and dead family members. Chhappan Bhog 2023 Date – 56 Sacred Food Items Offered to Sri Krishna at Vrindavan and Mathura

Chhappan Bhog is observed during the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapad Month at Vrindavan and Mathura. In remembrance of the divine incident of Krishna lifting the Govardhan mountain, 56 different types of dishes are offered to Sri Krishna on the day. In 2023, Chhappan Bhog important date is September 29 - Bhadrapad Purnima. Legend has it that Sri Krishna held aloft the Govardhan mountain (in Mathura) for seven days on his little finger, and saved the people from the wrath of Indra. Humbled, Indra became a follower of Krishna. The moment Krishna lifted the mountain, Surabhi, a heavenly cow, fed Krishna with her milk. To show their devotion, Gopis prepared 56 dishes and offered to Sri Krishna. 56 dishes are initially offered to Sri Krishna and then distributed among all the devotees in temples in the Braj region.

The full moon day in the month of Bhadrapada (August – September) is observed as Prostapadi Purnima. In 2023, the date of Prostapadi Purnima is September 29. Gurjar Rot Pujan is observed on the Bhadrapad Purnima or the full moon day in Bhadrapad month (September – October). The festival and rituals on the day are observed by the Gurjar community. Ananta Vrata, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is observed on the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight of Bhadrapad month. Ananta Vrata 2023 date is September 28.
