Edava Manthara Temple – Shivratri Festival

Edava Manthara Temple, also known as Thiruvambadi Sree Krishna Swamy temple, is located at Manthara near Edava in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva – Mahadeva, Goddess Bhadrakali and Bhagavan Sri Krishna. The annual Shivratri festival in Kumbha Masam and Ashtami Rohini in Chinga Masam is of great importance at Edava Manthara Sri Krishnaswamy temple.

Although the shrine is named after Bhagavan Sri Krishna, Shiva is the prime deity. The murti of Sri Krishna worshipped in the temple was retrieved from sea by fishermen.

The annual Shivratri festival is famous for nedum kuthira eduppu in the evening. Various pujas and rituals including homams, dhara, annadanam, pushpanjali, kalasha puja are part of the Shivratri festival.

Thottam Pattu and Navratri dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy is another important occasion in the shrine.

The chathura sreekovil in the temple has a Shivling. The shrine has a chuttambalam, nalambalam and shrines of Upa Devatas. The temple is very close to the Arabian sea at Edava.
