Adachu Purappeduka In Kerala Hindu Temples

Adachu purappeduka (à´…à´Ÿà´š്à´šു à´ªുറപ്à´ªെà´Ÿുà´•)  is a unique practice in Kerala Hindu temples. When puja, naivedya and other rituals are taking place in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, the main pujari will pause and leave the sanctum sanctorum to perform Bali and naivedya to the upa devatas. When leaving the sanctum sanctorum or sreekovil, the pujari will only open the door slightly so that he can leave the sanctum. The process of leaving the sanctum through the slightly open door for offering pujas to upa devatas during the main puja in the main sanctum is known as Adachu Purappeduka.
