Sri Krishna Jayanti, also known as Sri Jayanti or Gokulashtami, is observed in Avani Masam (August – September) in Tamil calendar. The birthday of bhagavan Sri Krishna is of great importance at the world famous Srirangam Ranganatha Swamy temple dedicated to the reclining form of Bhagavan Srihari Vishnu.
Apart from the regular food offerings, certain special food items are prepared and offered as naivedyam on the Sri Krishna jayanti day.
The special birthday food offerings to Bhagavan Sri Krishna include ellu urundai (sesame ladoo), suzhiyam (filling of jaggery, grated coconut, chana dal which are flavored with dried ginger and cardamom is dipped in maida batter and deep fried) and paruppu urundai (ladoo from lentils).
