Chooliyad Muchilottu Bhagavathi Kavu temple is located at Chooliyad off Mayil – Iritty road in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Muchilottu Bhagavathi and other popular deities worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual kaliyattam theyyam thira festival is held in the shrine for four days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 13 to Kumbham 16 (February 25 to Feb 28).
This is a beautiful small shrine with a Chatura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. The roof of the sanctum is traditionally decorated with religious motifs. There are separate designated raised square platforms for other deities. Some deities are worshipped under trees. Sankranti is an important day in a Malayalam month here. Vishu in April is of great significance here.
