Mettadi Velliyamparambu Pullivettakkorumakan Temple – Theyyam – Kaliyattam Festival

Velliyamparambu Pullivettakkorumakan temple is located at Mettadi near Mattannur in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Pullivettakorumakan and several other deities that are worshipped in tharavadu, temples and kavu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for three days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 20 to Kumbham 22 (March 4 to March 6).


This is a small shrine with a chathura sreekovil for the main deity. There are couple of other small square sanctum sanctorum for other deities. Several deities are worshipped on square-shaped raised platforms which are exposed to the elements. Some deities are worshipped under trees. Vishu is an important festival here. Sankranti in a Malayalam month is of great importance.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Velliyamparambu Pulli Vettakkorumakan temple are Oorpazhachi theyyam, Pullivettakorumakan theyyam, Kutti Theyyam and Vettakkorumakan theyyam.
