Chamandi Tharavadu Sree Chendukulangara Naga Devalayam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Chamandi Tharavadu Sree Chendukulangara Naga Devalayam temple is located at Ramanthali in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Nagas or serpents and other popular deities worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual kaliyattam theyyam thira festival is held in the shrine for two days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 25 to Kumbham 26 (March 9 to March 10).

This is a beautiful small shrine with a couple of Chatura sreekovil (s) – square sanctum sanctorum. The roofs of the sanctums are traditionally decorated with religious motifs. There is separate designated square raised platforms for other deities. Some deities are worshipped under trees. Sankranti is an important day in a Malayalam month here. Another important day is the Ayiliyam nakshatra in certain Malayalam months.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Chamandi Tharavadu Sree Chendukulangara Naga Devalayam temple are Bhairavan theyyam, Brahmanjeri Bhagavathy theyyam, Gulikan theyyam, Kurathi theyyam and Kundor Chamundi theyyam.
