Edanadu Neythalath Puthalathu Bhagavathy Temple – Theyyam – Kaliyattam Festival

Edanadu Neythalath Puthalathu Bhagavathy temple is located at Edanadu near Pilathara in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and several other deities that are worshipped in tharavadu, temples and kavu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 27 to Kumbham 28 (March 11 to March 12).

This is a small shrine with a chathura sreekovil for the main deity. The roof of the shrine is decorated with traditional religious motifs. There are couple of other small square sanctum sanctorum for other deities. Several deities are worshipped on square-shaped raised platforms which are exposed to the elements. Some deities are worshipped under trees. Vishu is an important festival here. Sankranti in a Malayalam month is of great importance.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Edanadu Neythalathu Puthalathu Bhagavathy temple are Kannikoru Makan theyyam, Kelankulangara Bhagavathy theyyam, Kundor Chamundi theyyam, Nagakanni theyyam and Velutha Bhootham theyyam.
