Sharika Jayanti in Ashada Month - Mela Dedicated to Sharika Bhavani

Sharika Jayanti is believed to be the day Goddess Sharika appeared on the earth to annihilate Adharma and restore Dharma. Sharika Jayanti 2020 date is June 29. It is observed on the ninth day during the Shukla Paksha or waxing phase of moon in Ashad month (July – August). The day is also known as Har Navami. The ritual is also referred to as Sharika Bhavani Mela.

Goddess Sharika is an incarnation of Mother Goddess Shakti and is widely worshipped in Jammu and Kashmir. Her abode is the Hari Parbat on the outskirts of Srinagar. She is also the patron deity of many Kashmiri Pandits.

The day is of great importance in temples dedicated to Goddess Sharika. Especially, the temple at Hari Parvat where the Goddess is worshiped in the form of a Sri Chakra.
