Goddess Bhargavi is an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi as per
certain Puranas and scholars. Another school of thought states that she is an
avatar of Goddess Parvati.
Goddess Bhargavi Story
Legend has it that Rishis (Saints) who were rich in knowledge were unable to satisfy their material needs. To live in the world they needed to create wealth.
To help the Rishis, Sage Bhrigu created Bhrigu Samhita –
which contained art of prediction, palmistry, vastu shastra etc. He asked the
Rishis to do prediction future and take fee for it.
Since Sage Bhrigu provided wealth to them, the Rishis
concluded that Goddess Lakshmi was his daughter and called the Goddess Bhargavi
– one who was conceived by Sage Bhrigu.
Another legend has it that Goddess Bhargavi was an
incarnation of Goddess Parvati. She was the daughter of Sage Bhrigu and wife
Khyati. In this form she wed Shiva as Chandrashekhara.
