Ratna Payasam Offering At Padmanabhaswamy Temple – Offered In Large Golden Vessel

Ratna payasam is a unique offering to Bhagavan Srihari Vishnu at the world famous Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. The name Ratna because the payasam or sweet is offered to the deity in a golden vessel studded with costly precious stones like diamonds, rubies, emerald etc. The offering is only done during two months first during Malayalam Makara Masam (January 15 to February 13) and during Tamil Aadi Masam (July 17 to August 16).

Ratna payasam is part of the Perunda amritha puja held in these two monghts. The payasam is served along with sadhya – rice, erissery, pulissery, pachadi and other traditional dishes of Kerala.

Ratna payasam is not distributed to the public and therefore bookings are not taken for it by the temple.

The sweet is prepared by boiling half-cooked rice in milk, jaggery, coconut milk and ghee.
