Kattampally Sree Puthiyavalappil Kavu Temple – Theyyam Thira Festival

Kattampally Sree Puthiyavalappil Kavu temple is located at Kattampally in Kannur district, Kerala. The annual theyyam thira festival in the temple is observed for three days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 1, Makaram 2 and Makaram 3 (January 15, January 16 and January 17). The shrine is dedicated to deities popularly worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in Kannur district.


The temple has a chathura sreekovil for the main deities – two deities are worshipped in a single sanctum sanctorum with two doors. Various other deities popularly worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in Kannur district are worshipped in small sreekovils or sanctum sanctorum and square platforms.

The main theyyams performed during the annual Kaliyattam and thira festival at Kattampally Sree Puthiya Valappil Kavu temple are Kandanar Kelan theyyam, Kudiveeran theyyam, Elladath bhagavathy theyyam, Vayanattu Kulavan theyyam, Thekkan Gulikan theyyam, Puliyoor Kannan theyyam and Sasthappan – Kuttichathan theyyam.
