Chendayad Kollambatta Muchilottu Kavu Temple – Theyyam Festival

Chendayad Kollambatta Muchilottu Kavu temple is located at Chendayad near Puthoor, Kannur district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and other famous deities worshipped in the tharavadu and kavu in the region.. The annual thira – theyyam festival in the temple is held for three days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 1, Makaram 2, and Makaram 3 (January 15, January 16, and January 17).

Sankranti, in every Malayalam month, and Vishu are important days in the temple. The temple has two tastefully decorated chathura sreekovil. There are spaces for other deities mainly on square platforms and in small sreekovils

The annual thira and theyyam festival in the temple is famous for various powerful theyyams including Kannangat Bhagavathy theyyam, Muchilottu Bhagavathy theyyam, Narambil Bhagavathy theyyam, Puliyoor Kali theyyam and Vishnumurthy theyyam.

The Thira utsavam begins with the kavil kayaral ritual. Vellattam, Kulichezhunellathu, melam, traditional temple performing art forms, various pujas and rituals, offerings by devotees etc are part of the annual festival.
