Kleenankandy Vayanattu Kulavan Temple – Theyyam Festival

Kleenankandy Vayanattu Kulavan temple is located at Kizhunnapara on the Kuttikkalam – Nadal road near Nadal in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Vayanattu Kulavan and other famous deities worshipped in the tharavadu and kavu in the region. The annual theyyam festival in the temple is held on the last Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Dhanu Masam (somewhere during the second week of January after Jan 10).

The temple has two tastefully decorated chathura sreekovil. There are spaces for other deities mainly on square platforms and in small sreekovils. The main pujas in the temple are performed on Sankranti day as per Malayalam Calendar. Vishu is an important festival in the temple.

The main theyyams that are part of the kaliyattam and theyyam festival are Elladath bhagavathy theyyam, Karanavar theyyam, Ponmalakkari theyyam, Thekkan Gulikan theyyam and Vayanat Kulavan theyyam.
