Therur Muchilottu Kavu temple is located at Therur near Mattannur in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. The annual kaliyattam – thira – theyyam festival in the temple is held for three days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 3, Makaram 4 and Makaram 5 (January 17, January 18 and January 19).
The main puja is held on the Sankranthi day as per Malayalam calendar. The main shrine is a small decorated chathura sreekovil. The other deities are worshipped on square platforms and also in small sreekovils. Vishu is an important festival in the temple.
The important theyyams performed in the temple are Kannangattu Bhagavathy theyyam, Vishnumurthy theyyam, Narambil Bhagavathy theyyam, Muchilot Bhagavathy theyyam and Puliyoor Kali theyyam.
Kavu kayaral, vellattam, kulichezhunellathu and other rituals, temple folk art forms, procession and melam are part of the annual festival.
