Legend has it that Brahmacheri Bhagavathy appeared from the third of Shiva to annihilate those performing adharma. She is highly ferocious form of Mother Goddess.
Her presence was first felt at Puramancheri Kavu. She was initially known as Puramancheri Bhagavathy. It got corrupted to Pramacheri and later to Brahmacheri
Brahmacheri Bhagavathy Theyyam is annually performed at Kannur Ramanthali Karappaath Ara, Ramanthali Chamandi Tharavad Sree Chendukulangara Naga Devalayam, Kannur Kunhimangalam Malliyottu Puthiyapurayil Kalari Devasthanam, Kannur Ramanthali Sree Parathi Ara, Kannur Vengara Karapath Tharavadu Devasthanam, Kannur Kunhimangalam Kuthirummal Thekke Thalakkal Tharavad Devasthanam, and Kannur Ramanthali Pazhassi Tharavad Devasthanam.
