Kavassery Kongalakode Sree Krishna Temple – Festival

Kongalakode Sree Krishna temple is located at Kanvassery in Palakkad district, Kerala. This is an ancient shrine dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Krishna. The annual Thrikarthika festival in the temple is held in Malayalam Vrischika Masam (November – December). Ashtami Rohini in Chinga Masam is another important festival in the temple. The annual festival in the temple is held in Makara Masam.

This is a typical Kerala style temple with chuttambalam, shrines of upa devatas, namaskara mandapam and a temple pond.

The temple performs three important pujas daily. The main offering to Bhagavan Krishna is venna or butter.

The annual festival in the temple is famous for traditional Vaishnava pujas and rituals. Caparisoned elephants, melam, traditional temple performing art forms of Kerala, and procession are part of the festivities. The festival concludes with the arattu ceremony.

Vishu is another important festival held in the temple.
