Mundappuram Panthirazhi Thamburatty temple is located at Mundappuram near Cherkunnu in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy or Thamburatti. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Dhanu Masam – Dhanu 9 to Dhanu 10 (December 25 to December 26).
The shrine has a two chathura sreekovils or square sanctum
sanctorum for the main deities. Upa devatas are worshipped atop square
platforms and under trees. Sankranti is an important day in a month in the temple.
The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Mundappuram
Panthirazhi Thamburatti temple are Dharma Daivam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Pottan
Daivam, Gulikan theyyam and Kurathi theyyam. The theyyam festival concludes
with the purappadu of Panthirazhi Thamburatti theyyam. After this there is the
kudiattam of all the theyyams together.
