Kunnummal Vishnumoorthi Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Kunnummal Vishnumoorthi temple is located at Kunnummal near Kottacheri Kanhangad in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Vishnumoorthi (Narasimha form of Maha Vishnu). The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for six days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 25 to Vrischikam 30 (December 11 to December 16).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kunnummal Vishnumoorthi temple are Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Kara Gulikan and Raktha Chamundi theyyam.

This is a typical Kerala style temple with a square sanctum sanctorum or chathura sreekovil for the main deity. Laksmi Narasimha form is worshipped here. There are separate shrines for upa devatas. Narasimha Jayanti in Vaishaka Masam (May) is of importance in the temple. Thulabharam ritual is performed in the temple.
