Parammal Sri Durga Bhagavathi Temple – Sree Goshala Krishna Temple

Parammal Sri Durga Bhagavathi temple is located atop a pristine and beautiful small hill called Nandavanam at Klayikode Parammal near Kayyoor in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Durga. There is a temple dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Krishna in the vicinity and it is known as Sree Goshala Krishna Temple. There is perennial pond near the shrine.

The Sree Goshalakrishna temple has a two tier chathura sreekovil. The temple has been renovated recently and therefore has a modern look. The shrine has a chuttambalam and namaskara mandapam. Sri Krishna Janmashtami in Malayalam Chinga Masam is of great significance in the temple. The Tejaswini River can be seen from the western side of the Goshalakrishna Temple.


The temple is frequented by peacocks on large numbers especially to gorge on the temple prasadam.

Parammal Sri Durga Bhagavathi temple has a square sanctum sanctorum (chathura sreekovil). The walls and roof of the small sreekovil are decorated with traditional Hindu motifs. Navratri, Durga Ashtami, Maha Navami and Vijayadashami (October) are of great importance in the temple.

There is a perennial pond in the vicinity of the temple known as Parammal temple pond. Even at the heights of summer, the hill atop the pond is filled with water. Legend has it that the pond was created by Goddess Durga by split opening the hill to help a pious devotee who used take care of Devi atop the hill during ancient times.

ഒരിക്കലും വറ്റാത്ത പുണ്യതീർത്ഥം ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന പാറമ്മൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ തീർത്ഥക്കുളം. പക്ഷിമൃഗാദികൾ പ്രാണ ജലമായ് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. മത്സ്യങ്ങളും, ആമകളും വസിക്കുന്നു. പാറമ്മൽ ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗാ ഭഗവതി തന്റെ ശാന്തിനിവൃത്തി ചെയ്തിരുന്ന വിപ്രന്റെ അപേക്ഷയ്ക്ക് ഭൂമി പിളർന്ന് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ പുണ്യതീർത്ഥക്കുളം. ക്ഷേത്രാവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കും, പൂജകൾക്കും, ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ദാഹം തീർക്കാനും തീർത്ഥജലം ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.
