Azhikode Puthiyaparambu Sree Puthiyakavu Bhagavathy Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Azhikode Puthiyaparambu Sree Puthiyakavu Bhagavathy temple is located at Puthiyapparambu near Azhikode in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 15 to Makaram 16 (January 29 to Jan 30).

This is a small shrine with a square sanctum sanctorum (chathura sreekovil) for the main deities. The roof and walls are traditionally decorated. Other deities are worshipped in smaller chathura sreekovil. Some deities are worshiped atop raised square platforms. Certain deities are worshiped under trees. The roof and walls are traditionally decorated. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of significance here. Vishu festival is of importance here. Kalamezhuthu Pattu is held in the shrine. The shrine is also noted for its intricate traditional wooden designs.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Azhikode Puthiyaparambu Sree Puthiyakavu Bhagavathy temple are Ilamkolam theyyam and Thai Paradevata theyyam.
