Dharanidhar Jayanti – Associated with Dhakad Samaj

Dharanidhar Jayanti is observed in Bhadrapad month. It is the birth anniversary of Dharanidhar or Balarama and is of great importance to Dhakad Samaj, who believe they are the descendants of Balaram, younger brother of Bhagavan Sri Krishna. Dharanidhar Jayanti 2025 date is August 14.

Dhakad or Dhakar samaj is spread across the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Numerous programs are organized by the community on the day, which includes charitable activities, food donation, and satsangs.

People from the Dhakad community have made significant contributions in the fields of politics, education, and business, especially in recent years as they have gained better access to resources and opportunities through affirmative action policies.

The Dhakads have historically been warriors, farmers, and laborers, with many individuals in rural areas still working as farmers or in traditional occupations.

The Dhakad community is recognized for its distinct cultural practices, including traditional folk dances, music, food and rituals that differentiate them from other communities.

Dharanidhar Jayanti is annually observed on Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha Sashti Tithi or the sixth day during the waning phase of moon in Bhadra month as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar followed in North India.

The day is popularly observed across North India as Lalhi Chhath or Hal Sashti.
