Ganesh And Laddu – The Story Why Ganesha Is Offered Ladoo?

Laddu is an important offering to Lord Ganesha. But why is Ladoo offered to Ganesh. The story associated with Ganesh and Ladoo begins with Kubera, the treasure of Gods, trying to show off his wealth. Kuber once invited Shiva with the intention to show off his newly built palace made of gold. Shiva, who realized the arrogance of Kubera, offered to send his son, Ganesha, on the occasion. When Ganesha reached the palace, Kubera tried to show his precious things but he was not interested. He was only interested in the food. Kubera boasted that he had prepared dishes to serve thousands of guests. Soon Ganesh started relishing the food served. Soon all the cooked food was finished. But his hunger could not be satisfied. Ganesha then started eating the raw vegetables and other raw food in the kitchen. Soon the raw food got over. Ganesha then started eating the gold plates and gold utensils in the kitchen. Kubera was clueless. He realized that Ganesh would eat up all his

Story of Sage Vibhandaka - Father of Rishyasringa

Story of Sage Vibhandaka is found in the Ramayana and it is also mentioned in the Puranas. Vibhandaka once performed intense penance to acquire Siddha and take control over nature. Indra, the king of Devas, was worried that Vibhandaka would use the Siddhi against him. To break the penance of the Sage, Indra deputed celestial damsel Urvashi. Urvashi succeeded in seducing Vibhandaka. Semen from Vibhandaka fell into a river and this went into the stomach of a doe that was drinking water. The female deer later gave birth to a male child, Rishyasringa. After the incident, Sage Vibhandaka had this guilt that he failed to control his desire. The visit of Urvashi also disturbed his Brahmacharya and Tapas. Vibhandaka did not want the same fate for his son. So he brought him up without giving knowledge about females. Reason For Hindus Worshipping Idols – Swami Tattvavidananda Saraswati

Reason for Hindus worshipping idols have been explained in many scriptures and by enlightened swamijis. Here is one explanation given by Swami Tattvavidananda Saraswati. Many people say that Hindus worship idols. I would like to differ with that kind of a description.  We do not worship idols; we worship Ishvara, which is the Godhead.  The Godhead, Ishvara, has essentially no form. Ishvara is formless, and not limited in time and space. Hence Ishvara can manifest in the framework of time/space as any form and every form. But the human mind being what it is, functions within the framework of space and time. It can therefore relate to forms and names alone. And hence at least in the beginning of religiosity and also spirituality, the human being needs a form to relate to Ishvara. And he can choose any form because there is no superiority of one form over another. Since every form is the manifestation of the formless Lord, the choice is left to the devotee.
