Alada Bhagavathi theyyam (ആലാട ഭഗവതി തെയ്യം) is a rare and unique theyyam performed during the annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in Kannur and Kasaragod regions of Kerala. As per information this is a ferocious form of Mother Goddess Bhagavathi and wears a strange mask. As per Alada Bhagavathy theyyam story, the goddess appears and annihilates demons and evil doers but her ferociousness starts disturbing the life of normal people. She then appears in a tharavadu and here she is given a place to stay. A theyyam is performed annually to keep her calm and to seek her blessings.
Alada Bhagavathi worshipped for protection of livestock. She is also worshipped for protection from enemies and supernatural forces. It is believed that her blessings help in overcoming various kinds of fear.
