Shravan 2020 Dates – Sawan Month in Traditional Hindu North Indian Calendar - Shravan Mahina 2020 Start

Shravan Month, or Sawan Mahina, is one of the holiest Hindu months and is dedicated to Lord Shiva in North India. Shravan Month 2020 starts on July 6 to August 3. The Shravan Month is the fifth month in a traditional Hindu lunar calendar followed in North India. This calendar is followed mainly in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar and Chhattisgarh and other North Indian states. A month in these regions is calculated from the day after Purnima or full moon to the next Purnima. The year in the Hindi Calendar is Saka 2077.

Rituals - Fasting - Puja and Other Observances in Shravan Month

  • Non-vegetarian food is completely avoided.
  • People make it a point to visit Shiva temples on Sawan Mondays.
  • The Mondays or Somwar in Shravan month is dedicated to worship of Shiva. The Mondays in the month are on  July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27 and August 3.
  • Mangala Gouri Puja is observed on Tuesdays in Shravan Month.
  • Shravan Month is also the first month in the Chatur Maas - four holy months.
Chaturthi Vrat or Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi in Shravan Month 2020 is on July 8. The Chandrodaya or Moonrise time as per North Indian calendars is 9:09 PM.

Shravan Month Krishna Paksha (waning phase of moon) is from July 6 to July 20

The Amavasi begins at 12:10 AM on July 20 and ends at 11:03 PM on July 20.

Shravan Purnima
Purnima is on August 3, 2020. The Purnima Vrat is marked on August 2.
The Purnima begins at 9:29 PM on August 2 and ends at 9:28 PM  on August 3
