Vakkom Ponnumthuruthu Shiva Parvati Vishnu Temple – Festival

Vakkom Ponnumthuruthu Shiva Parvati Vishnu temple is located at Ponnumthuruthu near Vakkom in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The main deity worshipped in the temple is Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Vishnu Bhagavan. The annual festival in the temple coincides with the Shivratri festival in Kumbha Masam (February – March). The murtis of the deities worshipped in the temple are very old. The outer structures of the temple are comparatively new. All the sreekovil here are square in shape. Shiva, Devi and Vishnu has separate shrines. The annual temple festival is noted for pujas and rituals. Abhishekam, and other similar rituals associated with Shiva temples in Kerala are observed here. The shrine also observes Vishu, Ramayana Masam and Mandala Makaravilakku. The shrine is located in a such a spot that it is covered with water on all three sides. The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Nagaraja and Nagayakshi.

Thekkinkadu Thrikkovil Mahavishnu Mahadeva Temple – Festival

Thekkinkadu Thrikkovil Mahavishnu Mahadeva Temple is located near Nagaroor near Kilimanoor in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Maha Vishnu and Shiva. Mahashivratri in Kumbha Masam (February – March) is an important festival here. Thekkinkadu Mahavishnu Mahadeva temple has two main deities Shiva and Vishnu. The temple has a vatta sreekovil with a chuttambalam and namaskara mandapam. The important rituals and festivities held on Mahashivratri include Rudra Abhishekam, Navakam Pooja, Athazha Pooja and Bhasma Abhishekam. Chathur Bahu Vishnu or Bhagavan Vishnu with four hands is worshipped in the temple. Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Shivling. The temple is located on a higher level from the ground. The shrine also observes Ramayana Masam and Mandala Makaravilakku. Vishu is another important festival here. Pradosham, Thursdays and Mondays are of great significance here.

Karicode Mahadeva Temple – Mulanthuruthy – Festival

Karicode Mahadeva temple is located at Karikode near Mulanthuruthy in Ernakulam district, Kerala. The main deity worshipped in the temple is Shiva or Mahadeva. The annual festival in the temple coincides with the Shivratri festival in Kumbha Masam (February – March). This an ancient temple with an old peepal tree in front. A Shivling is worshipped in the sreekovil. The temple has a chuttambalam, namaskara mandapam and shrines of Upa Devatas. The main upa devata worshipped in the temple is Ganapati at kannimoola. Karikode Mahadevar temple is located near Keezhoor - Hindustan Newsprint limited, Velloor, Peruva near Piravom in Ernakulam district. The main deity worshipped in the temple is Shiva or Mahadeva. The annual festival in the temple coincides with the Shivratri festival in Kumbha Masam (February – March). The Shivling worshipped in the temple is very old. Story Of Two Cities Malada And Karusha In The Ramayana

The story of two cities of Malada and Karusha is narrated by Rishi Vishwamitra to Bhagavan Sri Rama and Lakshmana in the Ramayana. It is found in the Bala Kanda Chapter 1 (23). The two cites of Malada and Karusha were located on the southern banks of Sarayu River. Indra acquired the sin of killing a Brahmana when he killed Vritra. To overcome the sin, the rishis and devas (demigod) bathed the king of Devas (Indra). When they bathed him with pots of water, the filth and muck were released. Perumparamba Shiva temple is located at Perumparamba near Edappal in Malappuram district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Shiva. Maha Shivratri in Kumbha Masam (February – March) is an important festival in the temple. The Shivling worshipped in the temple is swayambhu – divine appearance. The temple also has a temple of Vishnu Bhagavan facing the Shivling. The sanctum sanctorum of Shiva faces west. Legend has it that the temple was built by Shiva Bhuta Ganas in one night. The belief is that Shiva here is in a ferocious mood and Vishnu was consecrated to decrease the ferocity of Shiva. Azhikode Thekkumbhagam Neerkadavu Sri Kurumba Bhagavathi temple is located at Neerkadavu Azhikode South in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Koorumba Bhagavathy. The annual festival in the temple is held from Kumbha 16 to Kumbham 30 (February 28 to March 4). Maha Shivratri in Kumbha Masam (February – March) is an important festival in the temple.
