Bhadrakali Ekadashi - Mantra - Importance

Bhadrakali Ekadasi is observed during on the 11th day of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) – waning phase of the moon – in the month of Jyeshta (May – June). As the name suggests, it is dedicated to Goddess Kali and is mainly observed in Punjab, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir especially by Aryan Saraswat Brahmins. In 2022, the date of Bhadrakali Ekadashi is May 26.

It is believed by Aryan Saraswat Brahmins that Goddess Kali or Bhadra Kali made her divine presence on earth to annihilate Adharma on the Bhadrakali Ekadashi day.

This Ekadasi is observed as Apara Ekadashi in other parts of India and by other communities. In Orissa, this Ekadasi is known as Jalakrida Ekadasi and is associated with Lord Jagannath.

It must be noted that Bhadrakali Ekadashi has nothing to do with the Ekadasi fasting associated with Lord Vishnu.
