Pazhichayil Bhagavathy Theyyam is a rare ferocious Mother Goddess Kali theyyam worshipped in a few kavu, tharavadu and temples during the annual theyyam, thira, kaliyattam festival in Kannur region of North Kerala. As per information, this is a ferocious form of Goddess Bhagavathy. As per Pazhichayil Bhagavathy theyyam story, she appeared to defeat demons but her uncontrollable fury caused disturbance in the region. She had also given darshan to an ardent devotee. She was given a proper place of worship and a theyyam is performed annually to keep her calm and benign.
Pazhichayil Bhagavathy is worshipped to achieve peace and desire fulfillment. She is also worshipped to overcome health issues.
The theyyam holds a sword and shield and performs ferocious
actions. They theyyam has a huge thirumudi or headgear.
