Swami Chinmayananda jayanti is the birth anniversary of the great spiritual teacher, who continues to enthrall and enlighten thousands of people around the world. Swami Chinmayananda jayanti is annually held on May 8. In 2024, it is the 108th birth anniversary of Swami Chinmayananda.

In 1951, he founded Chinmaya Mission, a worldwide nonprofit organization, in order to spread the knowledge of Advaita Vedanta, teaching of the Yoga Vasistha, the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, and other Hindu scriptures. Today, Chinmaya Mission encompasses more than 300 centers in India and around the world and is mainly engaged in educational, spiritual, and charitable activities.

  • Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati was born as Balakrishna Menon on May 8, 1916 CE.
  • He started his career as a journalist and participated in the Indian independence movement.
  • He entered into the world of Sannyasa and Vedanta under the guidance of Swami Sivananda and Tapovan Maharaj.
  • His first lecture on Hindu spirituality was given in 1953 CE. Chinmayananda decided to spread the message of Vedanta in the hope of bringing about a spiritual revival among Hindus.
  • He delivered hundreds of religious and philosophical discourses, which he called jnana yajñas (“knowledge offerings”) explaining the esoteric Vedanta philosophy simply and logically by means of examples drawn from everyday life.
  • Swami Chinmayananda authored nearly 100 books, including commentaries on the major Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita.
  • He was a visiting professor of Indian philosophy at several American and Asian universities.
  • Swamiji attained moksha on 3 August 1993.
