Kalichan Daivam theyyam is a popular theyyam performed both in Kasaragod and Kannur districts of Kerala during the annual theyyam thira and kaliyattam festival. As per information, Kalichan Daivam is the protector of livestock and other farm animals. Kalichan Daivam theyyam story is that of him appearing protect agriculture and animals of a farming community. The deity resides in Kanjira Maram. Kalichan Kavukal is known as Kalichamarangal.
Every year on October 27 and October 28, a special feast is prepared using unakkalari in Kalichan Kavukal. This ritual is known as Kalichanootu or Kalichekkonootu (കാലിച്ചാനൂട്ട് അഥവാ കാലിച്ചേകോനൂട്ട്). When a cattle goes missing people offer payasam or sweet near his worship place for finding the missing cattle. A similar payasam is also prepared and on cattle grazing fields.
Kalichan Daivam theyyam wields a bow and arrow and kannakathi. This theyyam is offered prayers for protection of farmlands and animals.
This theyyam is performed at Cheruvathur Thimiri Valiya valappil chamundi Devasthanam temple, Kasaragod Chittarikkal Kammadam Bhagavathy temple, Kannur Payyanur Kavvayi Kottakeezhil Bhagavathi temple, Trikaripur Koyonkara Paramban Tharavad Niduvankulangara Bhagavathy temple, Kasaragod Sree Kottikulam Puthrakkar Tharavadu Devasthanam, Payyannur Kanam Minnadan Tharavad Devasthanam, Kasargod Munnad Maruthalam Thaanathinkaal Vayanattu Kulavan Devasthanam temple and numerous other kavukal.
- പൊയ്ക്കണ്ണ്‍ അണിഞ്ഞ് കന്നക്കത്തിയും അമ്പും വില്ലുമായി നടക്കുന്ന കാലിച്ചാന്‍ തെയ്യത്തിന്റെ രൂപം വയനാട്ടു കുലവനെ (തൊണ്ടച്ചനെ)ഓര്മ്മി പ്പിക്കുന്നതാണ്.
- തൊണ്ടച്ചന്റെ വെളിച്ചപ്പാട് തന്നെയാണ് കാലിച്ചാന്‍ തെയ്യത്തിനും അകമ്പടിയായി പോകാറുള്ളത് എന്നത് ശ്രദ്ദേയമാണ്‌.
- കാവുകളായാണ്‌ കാലിച്ചാന്‍ ദേവസ്ഥാനങ്ങള്‍ കണ്ടു വരുന്നത്‌. കാവിനുള്ളില്‍ അല്പ്പംു ഉയര്ത്തി ക്കെട്ടിയ രണ്ടു ചെറിയ തറകള്‍ ഉണ്ടാവും ഒന്നില്‍ തിരി വെക്കുകയും മറ്റേതില്‍ തെയ്യാട്ട സമയത്ത് കലശം വെക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.

- സ്ഥലനാമങ്ങളില്‍ അടക്കം സ്വാധീനം ചെലുത്താന്‍ ഇത്തരം ദേവസ്ഥാനങ്ങള്‍ വലിയ പങ്കു വഹിച്ചു എന്നതിന് തെളിവാണ് സ്ഥലനാമങ്ങളായ കാലിച്ചാമരം, കാലിച്ചാനടുക്കം, കാലിച്ചാപൊതി, കാലിച്ചാന്പൊ്യ്യില്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവ.
