Varakkara Bhagavathy temple is located at Varakkara on Amballur - Varandarappilly – Palappilly road in Thrissur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi (Durga Devi). The sankalpam of Mother Goddess here is that of sitting under a traditional umbrella (കുടക്കീഴിലമരുന്ന ദേവീസങ്കല്‍പ്പം). Varakkara Pooram 2024 date is January 14.
The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapati, Subramania, Ghantakarna, Rudhiramala. They are found inside the chuttambalam. The deities worshipped outside the chuttambalam are Adi Guru Muthappan, Brahmarakshas and Kshetrapalakan. There are also special shrines dedicated to Sree Dharma Sastha and Sree Narayana Guru near the temple pond.
Three pujas are held in the temple.
The 7-day annual festival in the temple concludes on Dhanu 30 (Mid January). The thidambu of Bhagavathy is carried atop caparisoned elephant. The annual festival pageantry display includes several elephants. Temple music and temple art forms are part of the festival. Colorful display, thalappoli, traditional folk arts and fireworks complete the annual festival.
Sree Bhootha Bali and Prasadam Ottu are held on the first day of every Malayalam month.

ഊരുചുറ്റുന്ന യാത്രക്കിടയില്‍ വിശ്രമിക്കാനിരുന്ന ഭഗവതിയെ ഒരു ഭക്തന്‍ കാണാനിടയായി. ഒരു കുലീനയായ സ്ത്രീ എന്നു മാത്രം തോന്നിയ അദ്ദേഹം സാക്ഷാല്‍ ഭഗവതിയാണ് ഇരിക്കുന്നതെന്നറിയാതെ കേരമധു നല്‍കി. ദാഹവും ക്ഷീണവും തീര്‍ന്ന ഭഗവതി ഭക്തനില്‍ സന്തുഷ്ടയായി.തന്‍റെ സാന്നിദ്ധ്യം എന്നും ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ടാകുമെന്നും നാടിനും നാട്ടാര്‍ക്കും വരം നല്‍കി അനുഗ്രഹിച്ച് അപ്രത്യക്ഷയായി .വരം കിട്ടിയ കര എന്നതിനാല്‍ ഈ കര വരാക്കര എന്ന പേരില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധമായി എന്ന ഐതിഹ്യം നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളായി നിലനില്‍ക്കുന്നു. ദേവിയെ നേരില്‍ കണ്ട് അനുഗ്രഹം ലഭിച്ച ആ ഭക്തന്‍ ദേവിയുടെ നിത്യപൂജകനായി മാറി. ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുളള ഗുരുമുത്തപ്പന്‍ ഈ സങ്കല്‍പ്പത്തിലുളളതാണ്. കഴിഞ്ഞകാലത്ത് കൗളസമ്പ്രദായത്തില്‍ ആരാധിക്കുകയും, പിന്നീട് സമയാചാരത്തിലേക്ക് മാറ്റി മഹാക്ഷേത്ര സംവിധാനത്തില്‍ ആരാധിച്ചു പോരുകയുമാണ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ചിരപുരാതനമായ രാജവംശക്കാരുടേയും തല്‍സംബന്ധികളായ ബ്രാഹ്മണരുടേയും, ആരാധനയില്‍ ദുര്‍ഗ്ഗാഭഗവതിയുടെ നിറഞ്ഞ സാന്നിദ്ധ്യവും ഇവിടെ നിലനില്‍ക്കുന്നു. നവോത്ഥാനകാലഘട്ടത്തില്‍ ശ്രീനാരായണ ഗുരുദേവന്‍ ഉപദേശിച്ചിട്ടുളള ശുദ്ധാചാരം അനുസരിച്ചാണ് ഇവിടെ നിത്യനൈമിത്യ കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ നടത്തിവരുന്നത്.
