Perumthatta Shiva Temple At Guruvayur

Perumthatta Shiva temple is located at Guruvayur in Thrissur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva. The temple is one among the 108 Shiva temples in Kerala. The local belief is that the Shivling worshipped here was consecrated by Parashurama avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu. This divine event happened in the Treta Yuga.

The temple is around 2 km from the west gate of famous Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple.

The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Bhagavan Vishnu,
Subrahmanyan, Goddess Durga, Nagaraja, Sastha and Rakshas.

The Pradosham fasting observed on the 13th day of a fortnight is of great importance here. Mahashivratri is the most important festival in temple.

The shrine is famous for the Maharudra Yajnam held for 11 days in Makaram month. This usually takes place on the first week of February.

The annual prathishta dinam in the temple is held in Malayalam Edava Masam (May - June).
