Mylapore Hanuman Temple in Chennai Tamil Nadu – Luz Anjaneya Temple in Mylapore

Veera Anjaneya Swami Temple located at Mylapore in Chennai in Tamil Nadu is a popular shrine dedicated to Hanuman. The shrine is popularly known as Luz Anjaneya Temple and is one of the oldest Hanuman Temples in Chennai. Offering Vada Malai on New Years’ day (January 1) is an important ritual here. It is believed that Shettys who ran away from Mysore to escape Muslim persecution established the Luz Anjaneya Temple around 350 years ago. The murti of Hanuman faces west and is depicted as walking towards southern direction. His eyes are adorned with earrings. Bannari Amman Temple Kundam is the fire walking ritual held at the famous Bannari Amman Temple near Erode in Tamil Nadu. This most important annual festival is observed on the last Tuesday of Maasi month. In 2015, the festival was observed from the night of April 6 to April 7. More than 250,000 devotees participate in the annual ritual of Kundam at Bannari Amman Temple. Most of the devotees are from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
