Vaipur Mahadeva Temple Near Mallappally – Festival – Vavu Bali

Vaipur Mahadeva temple is located on the Vaipur - Kulathoor Moozhy road near Mallappally in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva or Mahadevar. This is a huge traditional Kerala style temple. Manimalayar River flows nearby. Vavu Bali rituals are performed in the temple.

This is traditional Kerala style temple with an east facing vatta sreekovil – round sanctum sanctorum. There are shrines of upa devatas including that of Ganapati and Bhagavathy. The shrine has all traditional Kerala temple style architecture including nalambalam, kodimaram (flag pole) and namaskara mandapam.

The annual festival in the temple is held in Dhanu Masam. The 10-day annual festival includes various Shiva temple rituals and pujas, caparisoned elephants and Kerala traditional music and arts and pallivetta ritual. The festival concludes with the arattu ceremony.

Shivratri is another important festival in the temple.

The shrine observes the annual Karkidakava Vavu Bali and Pitru Tarpan in Karkidakam month. Hundreds of devotees pay respects to ancestors on the day.
