Vettor Maha Vishnu Temple – Festivals – Karkidaka Vavu Bali

Vettor Maha Vishnu temple is located is located at Vettoor near Konni in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavan Vishnu and is located on the banks of Achankovil River. The shrine is famous in the region for performing the annual Karkidaka Vavu Bali ritual and pitru tarpanam in the Karkidaka Masam (July – August).

The temple has a chathura sreekovil, namaskara mandapam, upa devata shrines and chuttambalam.

The most important day in the temple is Thursday. The temple observes various important rituals associated with Hindu temple in a calendar year including Vishu, Ramayana Masam, Niraputhari, Thiruvonam, Prathishta Dinam, Navratri with Vidyarambham, and Thrikarthika.

Thousands of people participate in the Bali rituals in Karkidaka Masam in the temple.

The festival is famous for various Vaishnava pujas and rituals. Kerala traditional temple art forms, music, and folk performances are part of the annual festival.

Special pujas are held on Ekadashi day.
