Elavanchery Sankaramkudam Shiva Temple – Festival – Vavu Bali

Elavanchery Sankaramkudam Shiva temple is located at Kottayangad – Elavanchery in Palakkad district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva or Mahadeva. The shrine observes the annual Karkidaka Vavu Bali and Pitru Tarpanam on the Vavu or Amavasya day in Karkidakam month. Hundreds of people arrive at shrine and offer various rituals to ancestors. Special arrangements are made by temple management for Bali Tharpanam on the occasion.

This is a typical Kerala style temple with a chathura sreekovil, namaskara mandapam, chuttambalam and kodimaram.

Shivratri festival is held with various pujas and rituals including dhara, homam and various other Shiva temple rituals. 

The temple observes various important rituals associated with Hindu temple in a calendar year including Vishu, Ramayana Masam, Niraputhari, Prathishta Dinam, Navratri with Vidyarambham, Thrikarthika and Thiruvathira.

Pradosham and other Shiva temple rituals are held as per Shaiva tradition in the temple.
