Kattachira Cherumannil Sri Maha Vishnu Temple – Festival – Vavu Bali

Kattachira Cherumannil Sri Maha Vishnu temple is located at Kattachira near Bharanikkavu in Alappuzha district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Vishnu Bhagavan. The annual Bali Tharpanam and Pitru Tarpanam on Karkidaka Vavu Bali day is of great importance in the temple.

This is a traditional Kerala style temple with a chathura sreekovil which faces east. The temple has a pond, namaskara mandapam, chuttambalam and kodimaram or flag pole. The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathi, Rakshas, Ayyappan and Navagrahas.

Pal Payasam is the most important vazhipadu in the temple.

The annual festival in the temple is held in Kumbha Masam (February – March) includes various Vaishnava temple rituals and pujas, caparisoned elephants and Kerala traditional music and arts and pallivetta ritual. The festival concludes with the arattu ceremony.

The temple observes Vishu, Vinayaka Chaturthi and Thiruvonam with various traditional rituals. Mandala Makaravilakku is another important festival here.
