Manakadavu Mahavishnu Temple – About – Festival – Vavu Bali

Manakadavu Mahavishnu temple is located at Mankadavu in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavan. The shrine observes the annual Karkidaka Vavu Bali and Pitru Tarpanam on the Vavu or Amavasya day in Karkidakam month. Hundreds of people arrive at shrine and offer various rituals to ancestors. Special arrangements are made by temple management for Bali Tharpanam on the occasion.

This is a typical Kerala style temple with a chathura sreekovil, namaskara mandapam, chuttambalam and kodimaram. The Kuppam River flows through the side of the temple. As per history, the temple belonged to Poonjar Thampurans.

The temple observes various important rituals associated with Hindu temple in a calendar year including Vishu, Ramayana Masam, Niraputhari, Thiruvonam, Prathishta Dinam, Navratri with Vidyarambham, and Thrikarthika.

The annual festival commences with Kalavara Nirakkal Ghoshayathra in April month. The festival is famous for various pujas and rituals. Kerala traditional temple art forms, music, and folk performances are part of the annual festival.

Various Vaishnava pujas and rituals are held in the shrine throughout the years including Ekadashis and Saptaham.
