Chakrabjapooja is an ancient ritual performed at the Sree
Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. It is a very rare
ritual and is performed to appease Bhagvan Srihari Vishnu, Surya and Chandra. The
five-hour-long pooja is based on the “kalachakra” (wheel of time).
Chakrabjapuja ritual involves an elaborate homam performed
by the main temple priest at the Bhadradeepapura in the temple.
The chakrabjapooja is considered one of the most complicated
rituals in the Kerala school of tantra.
The puja involves drawing of the padmam - a drawing on the
floor for tantric rituals. It is created by experts.
Devotees can conduct the pooja as an offering.
Devotees can offer the puja as an offering in two categories,
an elaborate version costing Rs 40,000 and another costing Rs 15,000.
The elaborate Chakrabjapooja is the most costly puja in the Padmanabhaswamy
Temple.
The
ritual which was last performed 30 years ago was restarted on Vishu 2015.
