Sri Krishna has on numerous occasions proved to the world
that it is unflinching devotion that matters not rituals and pujas. The story
of Sri Krishna eating banana peel is found in the Mahabharata. The incident
happened at the house of Vidura, uncle of Pandavas and Kauravas.
Sri Krishna went to the Kauravas as a mediator before the
beginning of the Great War in the Mahabharata as Pandavas did not want to go to
war against their cousins. The mission was unsuccessful as the Kauravas were
adamant they were not ready to give even a single house to the Pandavas.
From the Hastinapaura palace, Sri Krishna then went to the house of Vidura. But he was not
present.
Vidura’s wife Sulabha, who was present at the house, was spellbound by the presence ofKrishna . She brought a banana
to offer to Krishna . She was so enraptured
that she threw the banana away and offered the peel.
Krishna noticed it but ate the banana peel as it was offered to him with pure heart and unwavering devotion.
