Vijayadasaru Aradhana

Vijaya Dasaru Aradhana is an annual event held every during Shukla Paksha Dasami (10th day of waxing phase of moon) of Kartik Month. Vijayadasaru Aradhana is on November 11, 2024. Vijaya Dasaru had left his body and merged with the Sri Hari Vishnu during this period. Sri Vijayadasaru (1682 – 1755), has composed more than 25000 devotional songs in Kannada, and he is one of the most renowned scholar and philosopher of Dvaita philosophy of Madhvacharya.  Vijayadasaru Aradhana is annually held at Chippagiri, a place associated with Vijaya Dasaru. The aradana is being held in ‘Sri Vijayadasaru Katte’ (Vrindavana) at Chippagiri. Thousands of followers of Madhvacharya (Madwas) attend the Aradhana and take darshan on these days. Chippagiri is about 9 Km from Guntakal Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh. The place is on the Karnataka – Andhra Pradesh border.

Kartavirya Arjuna Jayanti 2024 Date - Importance

Kartavirya Arjuna is popular in Hindu Puranas as the thousand armed king who defeated Ravana. Kartavirya Arjuna Jayanti 2024 date is November 8. Kartaviryarjuna Jayanti is observed annually on the Shukla Paksha saptami day (seventh day of the waxing phase of moon) in Kartik month. Somvanshi Sahasrarjun Kshatriya Samaj and Kansara Samaj in India believe that they are from the lineage of Karthaveeryarjuna. Sage Dattatreya was the guru of Kartavirya Arjuna. It is believed that he got his thousands arms as a blessing from Sage Dattatreya. Some scholars are also of the view that Kartavirya Arjuna is an incarnation of the Sudarshana Chakra of Hindu God Vishnu. Legend has it that once he blocked Godavari using his thousand arms to take bath with his queens. This enraged Ravana who was bathing on one side of Godavari . It is said that in the battle that followed Kartavirya Arjuna humbled the Ravana.

Gopalashtami – Gopal Ashtami in Jammu and Kashmir

Gopalashtami is an important festival dedicated to Lord Krishna and is observed on the eighth day during waxing phase of the moon in the month of Kartik (October – November). Gopalashtami 2024 date is November 9. Gopal Ashtami festival celebrates the day when  Krishna  became an independent cowherd. Go Puja, worship of cows, are performed on the day in Jammu and Kashmir by the Kashmiri Pandits and other Hindu communities. In other regions of the India , the festival is known as Gopashtami. It is believed that Lord Krishna was allowed to herd the cows for the first time on this day by his foster father Nanda. Till then he was only looking after the calves. The day is a major event in all Krishna temples and in places associated with Krishna in Kashmir .

Vrindavan Mathura Parikrama – Braj Vrindavan Mathura Parikrama in Kartik Month

Vrindavan Mathura Parikrama is the walking of on bare foot around Vrindavan and Mathura , the places associated with Lord Krishna. In 2024, the date of Vrindavan Mathura Parikrama on  Akshaya Navami  is November 10. Parikramas are done out of intense devotion (Bhakti) and also as penance for sins committed. Another day when Vishnu devotees perform the Parikrama is during the Dev Prabodhini Ekadasi on November 12, 2024. Braj Vrindavan Mathura Parikrama is major spiritual journey undertaken during the Kartik Month (October – November) by Lord Krishna devotees. Vrindavan Mathura Parikrama on Akshaya Navami is considered highly auspicious and attracts thousands of devotees. Kharna Fasting During Chhath Puja

Chhath Puja, which is spread over four days, is dedicated to Surya, the sun god and Agni (fire) and Lord Kartik. The second day is known as Kharna and a complete fast is observed by men and women. Kharna Fasting 2023 during Chhath puja is on November 18. Kharna is observed from sunrise to sunset. It is a complete fast with some devotees even not taking water during the fasting period. The fast should not be undertaken by pregnant women, devotees having health problems and older people. Some people opt for partial fast and drink lot of water and eat fruits. Some people eat salt-less food. Sabudana khichadi and vrat foods are also eaten on the day. The Kharna fast is broken after performing a puja at home in the evening. The puja is dedicated to Surya, Kartik, Agni (fire god) and Chhathi Maiya. Kheer, sweets and fruits are offered to deities and then the whole family shares it as prasad. For many devotees, another round of fasting begins after the prasad is shared.
