Char Dham Yatra 2007

Char Dham Yatra comprises of pilgrimage to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarakhand, India. These important shrines in Hinduism remains closed for major part of the year due to snowfall. The temples usually open in the month of April for a six-month period.Gangotri, located at an altitude of 3200 meters, Yamunotri, at an altitude of 4421 meters, Badrinath, at an altitude of 3135 meters, and Kedarnath, at an altitude of 3580 meters, attract more than 1.5 million visitors each year from India and around the world.Gangotri and Yamunotri will be open on April 19 2007 – the Akshya Tritiya day. Badrinath will open on April 30th and Kedarnath will open on May 1st.

Insurance Cover for Visitors to Puri Rath Yatra

The Puri Jagannath temple administration has decided to insure all devotees taking part in the annual Rath Yatra. Each devotee visiting the temple during the Rath Yatra will be insured for Rupees 500,000. The insurance cover is for 15 days during the Rath Yatra festival. The decision to insure devotees was taken after last year’s stampede which left four dead.
